Robins and Wrens Class

Uffington Church Of England Primary School - EYFS

Welcome to the EYFS page. Here you will find everything Wrens and Robins get up to! We look forward to sharing the special things we do throughout the year with you.

Summer 1

Wrens update

What a wonderful half term we have had in Wren’s! The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Show and Tell, confidently sharing their favourite items from home with their friends and classmates. We have been learning how our toys work and how we can look after them. The children especially enjoyed our Teddy Bears’ Picnic in the sunshine, as well as our exciting trip to the farm and visits to the woods. We have also loved spending time in our growing garden, where the children have gained hands-on experience in planting, growing, and caring for the environment. Excitingly, our garden renovations have now begun, and watching the diggers at work has created lots of enthusiasm and excitement among the children! After half term, our new topic will be Amazing Animals. We hope you all have a lovely and restful half term break.

Robins update

What a busy and exciting half term it has been in Reception! This half term, our topic has been Toys and Teddies. The children have loved exploring how toys and teddy bears have changed over time and comparing toys from the past with the ones we play with today. We enjoyed a Teddy Bears’ Picnic with families. It was lovely to see everyone together enjoying games, activities and special picnic time with their teddies. In PE, we have been focusing on gymnastics, developing our balancing, jumping and coordination skills. The children worked incredibly hard throughout the unit and, in our final lesson, created their own sequence of movements using all the skills they had learnt. Our weekly Woodland Explorers sessions continue to be a favourite part of the week for Robins class. The children look forward to returning each week to build upon their experiences, enhance their creations and develop new skills through exploration and teamwork outdoors. A special mention must also go to all of the children for their fantastic attitude towards maths and writing this half term. We are so proud of the wonderful progress they are making and the enthusiasm they show towards their learning every day. We also enjoyed an exciting trip to Rollright Farm, where the children learnt about how a real-life farm works. They had the opportunity to collect eggs from the chickens, see baby chicks, meet the pigs and even plant their own seed to take home and care for. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that the children thoroughly enjoyed. What a busy half term it has been! We are incredibly proud of all the children and look forward to spending our final half term together in Reception.

Autumn 2

What a busy and brilliant half term we’ve had in Robins!
The children have shown wonderful progress in their reading and writing, and their enthusiasm has shone through in everything we’ve done. Here are just a few of our favourite moments from this half term, shared by the children themselves:

  • “I loved doing the Nativity play!”

  • “Splashing in the puddles was the best!”

  • “Decorating our classroom for Christmas was my favourite.”

  • “I liked being an artist and Painting like Van Gogh!”

  • “I like playing with my friends every day.”

It’s been a half term full of learning, joy, creativity, and friendship. We can’t wait to see what the next one brings!

What a fantastic term we’ve had in Wrens! Our topic this term has been Celebrations, and the children have loved exploring special events from different cultures and traditions. We learned about Remembrance Day, celebrated birthdays, discovered the lights and colours of Diwali, and of course enjoyed all the excitement that comes with Christmas. The children have been busy baking cakes, sharing Christmas cards, and getting stuck into plenty of messy, sensory exploration. We’ve been working hard on our rhyming words, and it’s been wonderful to see the children working together, supporting one another, and developing brilliant teamwork skills.

Autumn 1

What a fantastic start we’ve had in Robins! The children have already made so much progress — learning new skills such as reading, developing lovely friendships, and showing great resilience when faced with new challenges. A real highlight for us this term has been our visits to the woods, where the children have enjoyed exploring, discovering nature, and working together with such enthusiasm. We’re so proud of how well they’ve all settled and are excited to see what the next term brings!

What a fantastic first half term it’s been in Wrens class! We’ve been having lots of fun, and the children have settled beautifully back into the routine. A big welcome to our new starters – you’ve all done wonderfully and have become part of the Wrens family so quickly. This term, our theme has been 'super me, super you' where we have spoken lots about emotions, different people who help us and people who are special to us. we’ve really enjoyed watching the seasons change and exploring all things autumn! Our woodland trips have been a big hit, giving the children the chance to connect with nature, crunch through leaves, and spot signs of the new season. Sensory play has also been a highlight – we’ve been getting messy, exploring textures, and having so much fun in the process! A special mention goes to our exciting visit from the firefighters – the children were thrilled and loved learning about what they do and seeing the fire engine up close. Behind the scenes, the team have been working hard to enhance our classroom environment, creating a space that is inviting, stimulating, and full of opportunities for play and learning.
