Kingfishers

Hello Kingfishers!

For the last 3 weeks of term we are going to have a focus on transition into your next year group. In order to do this, the online home learning work will predominantly include maths and English for you to complete every day.

Reading, spelling practise and times table practise should still be done daily.

Maths

There will be a White Rose Maths lesson for you to complete for four days of the week so it should feel more like school where we do maths every day. You should complete the arithmetic test on the fifth day.

You can access the video for each lesson of the week using this link: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/ and the worksheet and answers to go with each lesson will be linked below on the website. I would recommend doing these daily rather than all at once to take in one concept at a time. Don’t forget to mark your work too!

English

You should then complete an English based activity each day. These include:

  • Grammar and punctuation
  • Reading comprehension
  • Book review (review a book if you’ve finished one that week, or the chapter that you have finished reading – it would be great to have pictures of these so that we can recommend them to others in the class!)
  • Writing activity (two days’ worth of finding features, planning and writing)

For the rest of your week there will be 1 Science, 1 topic and 1 RE research based activity/project for you to work through in your own time as well as art and PE recommendations.

Week 6 - Maths

This week's reasoning includes bronze, silver and gold activities where you must interpret data from a graph. I know lots of you wanted practise with this after our last PiXL papers, so you should find this useful!

You can also use the links below for the Y4/Y5 BBC Bitesize videos and activities. A new Maths ‘lesson’ is uploaded each day.  Watch the videos which explain the learning and then have a go at the games/activities which follow further down the page. You can complete these each day when they are put up on Bitesize, or you could save them up and have a maths day towards the end of the week where you complete a few of them! Whatever suits you best! Remember to use the method that you find the most efficient!

VE DAY - WHOLE SCHOOL PROJECT

VE Day - or 'Victory in Europe Day' - marks the day towards the end of World War Two when fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe came to an end. On 8th May 1945, the Prime Minister at the time, Winston Churchill, made an announcement on the radio at 3pm that the war in Europe had come to an end, following Germany's surrender the day before.

We learnt all about VE Day when WW2 was our topic in the Autumn term, so hopefully you'll be able to tell your families some brilliant facts! This year's early May bank holiday (Friday 8th May) has been moved to coincide with VE Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.

Mrs Nickelson has given us a lovely whole school project which you can read about above and complete this week!

Week 5 - Maths

This week’s maths activities are based on the White Rose Hub. To access this and understand how to use it, please read my ‘a guide to using White Rose Maths’ above. I look forward to seeing how you all get on!

On White Rose they show a variety of methods to get to the answer, but if you’re confident with the column method then just use that, that’s absolutely fine!

HAPPY EASTER!

Thank you to all of you for all your hard work over the last couple of weeks. We have all be finding our feet and I couldn’t have asked for a more cooperative and amazing class of children! You have all done your best with the resources you’ve had and your fabulous parents have helped to ensure you have been able to continue to learn!

Now you really deserve a fun and restful 2 weeks off for the Easter holidays! There’s already lots of exciting things that me and the other teachers have put into place for when you’re back and I look forward to hearing what you get up to!

All the staff are thinking of you!

Stay safe everyone,

Miss Hustler

WELCOME TO THE KINGFISHERS' HOME LEARNING PAGE!

Well done everyone - we have completed week one! Haven't we been so lucky with the weather?! I have absolutely loved seeing the fabulous work and things you have been up to, so thank you so much for sending me your photos and messages - it has made my week! I have put a collection of these from week 1 at the bottom of this web page and will be doing the same underneath the set work for week 2!

This coming week will work exactly the same as week one. The work will be laid out on the website in the same way, with most subjects having bronze, silver and gold activities. Use the new 'Home Learning Menu' to direct you. Make sure you are challenging yourself as you would do in school and always trying your hardest! However, it is also really important that you are all spending time with your families, playing outside, cooking, drawing and just being children! I hope you're all making the most of this time and enjoying yourselves as well as working hard! Please remember to email me (kingfishers@freeland.oxon.sch.uk) at least once by the end of the week to update me and show me a piece of work/activity you enjoyed or are proud of!

I am missing you all and hope to see you soon!

Week 2 - Photos of work and activities!

Welcome to the Kingfishers Home Learning Page!

I hope this work will keep all children fulfilled and learning each week while school has to remain closed to majority of pupils. I can't wait to see what they all manage to produce!

Below is the document titled 'Home Learning Menu' where a brief summary of all the set work is explained including useful websites and videos. A new one of these will be added to this page each week.

Underneath this document, all of the subject activities are explained in full on individual word documents. New documents full of activities will also be added weekly beneath the new learning menu. Most activities are split into bronze, silver and gold (gold being the most challenging). Children who want to stretch themselves may want to complete all three, others may want to focus all their time on completing one/two to the best of their ability. There is also a challenge to follow the activities for extended learning/thinking.

I hope that this is clear enough for parents and children to understand, access and complete at home.

Any queries or questions please email me at: kingfishers@freeland.oxon.sch.uk

Please also send at least one piece of work to this email address by the end of the week so that I can see what amazing things you've been up to! I am uploading these to the website to encourage and inspire other children so that you can all appreciate each others' work. Scroll to the bottom of the week's work to see these!

Keep safe everyone!

Hope to see you all soon,

Miss Hustler

Thank you to all of you who have sent through pictures of your work and activities that you have enjoyed so far this week. I am loving being able to see what you're up to and respond via email. I'm finding it very strange not seeing your faces every day, so it's fantastic to see so many of you are engaged with your learning outside of the classroom. Keep it up everyone! I will continue to post your photos on here to give everyone a bit of inspiration at this strange time!
